Book Week 2015
The Book Week was organized from the 20th to the 24th of April by the library department of Modern School Barakhamba Road, held a series of weeklong activities to help students explore the world of books.
Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai, a famous Indian journalist was the guest for the opening ceremony on 20th April. He shared his experiences and stories of success. He advised children to follow their heart and to enjoy what they do. In a question answer session with the students Mr. Sardesai spoke about the field of journalism, the youth of India and the changing tech savvy world around us. He spoke about the importance of books and the need to read in today’s world. Later on, the Scholastic Book Fair was inaugurated by the Guest and the Principal.
On 21st April, the second day of the Book Week the students of class S2-C met the renounced author MS Vinita Krishna. Ms Krishna a teacher and special educator for the past three decades expressed her love for children in many ways and inspired children to inculcate the habit of reading. She advised the students that hard work is necessary for success.
Many students form the S4 section also visited the American Centre library on Kasturba Gandhi Marg. They explored the great American Library with excitement. Mrs. Jyoti Chanana showed the students a motivational documentary about how our company influences our moral character, giving them an important lesson for life. Children had a fun filled, enriching experience visiting the library and learning about books and e books along with their importance
Dr. Davika Rangachari has won several awards for the children writing. Her book growing up was nominated to the honor list of the International Board of Young People as most outstanding entry. Devika shared the art of writing, which she loves the most. She further discussed the base to develop a story. Students shared many instances and tried to develop stories instantly.
Mr. Ajit Narayan, a professional cartoonist, drawing for various print media for the last 20 years conducted a ‘cartooning workshop’ for S1, played with the different emotions of human mind. By drawing cartoons he demonstrated the ways to express different emotions and situations, which children enjoyed immensely.
Ms Tanya Chaudhury a lawyer by profession and an Alumni interacted with the students of S 3 C She created an environment for the students to interact with each other about the problems they face and offered possible solutions. The session allowed students to speak their minds and allowed them to know more about themselves and their class mates .Overall it was a session where all students were involved, while allowed them a platform to speak about issues which affect them immensely. During the discussion children got involved in a healthy discussion on how they could express their anger in a peaceful way, which would help them to build friendship and team spirit.
