Science Park
A Science Park was set up in our school and was inaugurated on 9th November 2014 by Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, AVSM. It features structures displaying various scientific laws and principles relating to concepts like Angular Momentum, a Square Wheel Cycle, which can roll smoothly keeping the axle moving in a straight line, a Crystal Structure with an array of atoms arranged at uniform intervals and the Vortex where water rotates faster at the periphery rather than at the centre etc.
Science Park is an area managed in a manner designed to promote innovation. It is a physical place that supports university-industry and government collaboration with the intent of creating high technology economic development and advancing knowledge. These parks differ from typical high-technology business districts, in that university/ school research parks, science and tech parks are more organized, planned, and managed.
BALA (Building As a Learning Aid)
BALA (Building as Learning Aid) is an innovative concept towards qualitative improvement in education, through developing child-friendly, learning and funbased physical environment building in school infrastructure. Modern School with its illustrious lineage believes in this concept and every nook and corner exudes knowledge in its myriad forms.
It is an initiative to holistically plan and use the school infrastructure constructively. It incorporates the ideas of activitybased learning, child friendliness and inclusive education for children with special needs. At the core, it assumes that the architecture of the school can be a resource for the teachinglearning processes.
DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Programme
D.E.A.R is classroom time set aside for teachers and students in the Modern School academic arena to Drop Everything and Read. The goal of D.E.A.R is to encourage independent silent reading for extended periods of time on a daily or weekly basis. Students choose the book they wish to read based on interest and ability.
Hence the focus is on sustained silent reading. It provides students with much more than just a sit and read experience. It gives students time to read what they want to read & share what they have read. The School has mooted this initiative to give more power to the Cranium Nuggets.
A Word a Day
Words form the spoken and written format of a language. Adding more fodder to one’s vocabulary enhances the writing and speaking prowess of an individual. The students of Modern School add a word a day to their cranium nuggets and try framing a sentence with the said word.
As Julie Andrews would sing “ Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start; when you read you begin with a,b,c and when you sing you begin with Do, Re, Mi”.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart and words do this magic. “We live and breathe words.”
Cycle Polo
On the fine sunny morning of Thursday, 30th of January 2020, Cycle Polo was officially launched on the play grounds of Modern School Barakhamba Road (upper field) by the Principal, Dr V Datta who threw the white polo ball and began the proceedings amidst the presence of the coaches and the sports co-ordinators. The event saw a commendable participation from the Modern School Equestrian team and other enthusiastic students of the Middle Wing. The students were made familiar with the new bicycles and the mallets used to play cycle polo.
The Cycle Polo induction as a sport at Modern School is yet another initiative taken by our Principal, Dr V Datta who is undoubtedly known to give a paramount importance to the well being and interests of our students.
The sport was quick to demonstrate its viability to the polo aficionados in India who were awed by its all-season nature.
Cycle Polo sport will be included in the National School Games also.
Our students would be among the very privileged lot to be trained in this extremely interesting and ecofriendly sport.
Air Pollution
Fight against air pollution – by placing 500 Air purifying plants all over the campus.
Plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen; we all know this. But some plants can actually do much more, like purifying the air around us. Toxins like dust and chemicals can remain in the air.
Air purifying plants not only make your place look better but breathe better too!
They are known mostly for their healing benefits, are sometimes referred to as an ‘oxygen bombs’ because of their ability to increase oxygen levels in our surroundings. They can also absorb more carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde than most other plants.
Equestrian
“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”
Horse-riding is back in the Modern School’s sporting fold after a gap of 32 years. A new riding arena has been created for the said purpose. Thoroughbred horses has given credence to horsemanship in students who understand the adage that there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man; this also imbued the fact that the history of mankind was written by a horse. Horses teach us patience, kindness, to live and how to make friends. They can teach us to be more understanding and look at other’s viewpoints in an unbiased manner. It is the aura of unconditional love and acceptance that a horse exudes.
Clock
The jewel in the crown of the Modern School façade, a clock of the Big Benesque stature has been re-installed.
Globe
A magnificent globe has been given the pride of place in the front lawns again, after more than 35 years. Besides imparting the physical geographical aspect, it is to emphasize on the fact that Modern School is in tandem with the global vision.
The Time Capsule
The History Society of our school has buried Modern School’s first ever ‘Time Capsule’ on 9th November 2014. It contains items showcasing the popular culture – the ideas, the perspectives, and images that shape our world. This activity was done to give an idea to the people of 2044 of our world at large.
