At Modern School co-curricular activities are a fundamental part of school life and aid in improving students’ learning at school. Co-curricular activities in our school are intended to bring social and intellectual skills, moral, cultural and ethical values, personality development, and character advancement in students.
In this highly competitive world, better grades are sought after while taking admissions in various colleges, universities or institutions in India and abroad. We understand that co-curricular activities provide better opportunities as students pursuing these activities are certainly given preference. In school, the students are introduced to a wide range of activities that give them better strength while letting them choose what they wish to learn and what they enjoy.
We ensure that these activities offer our students an opportunity to think out of the box and recreate plethora of innovative ideas on their own. Bits ‘n’ Bytes – The Technology Club
Bits ‘N’ Bytes is the Technology (Computer) Club of Modern School, Barakhamba Road. It was founded in 1986-87 with the objective of spreading technology related awareness and knowledge among youngsters and adults.
The members of Bits ‘N’ Bytes club represent Modern School, Barakhamba Road and participate in various symposiums and competitions organised by reputed institutions and consistently achieve laurels for the school.
Workshops and seminars are organized which are conducted by eminent technology experts.
Members of Bits ‘N’ Bytes believe in sharing their knowledge, and they do so by organizing regular workshops for the peer students of the school.
This Club organizes the Inter School Computer Symposium ‘Access’, which is one of the biggest and popular IT Symposiums in India.
Club also organise ‘Intra Access’ for the students of Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
Biznomics – The Commerce & Economics Club
Biznomics Society is a platform provided by Modern School barakhamba road to encourage young business minds to further embrace their business skills and prepare to excel in future.
Events like business plan encourages the new start up minds to further improve and make their ideas better by giving them the right direction. Mock stock sessions prepare future investors for stock market by conducting stimulated stock market sessions.
Other activities include business quizzes, ad acting, group discussions and an array of diversified events.
Al Arte – The Graphics Club
Graphics Club of Modern School Barakhamba Road has been organising various club exhibitions throughout the year, on Independence day, Sports day and Christmas day since past few years and also presents a portrait to the honourable Chief Guest of that event.
It polishes its students in various aspects of artwork from sketching to woodcarving on various mediums like sunboards, woodboards and lino sheets.
It teaches students the concept of printmaking through carving on mediums and then printing through them.. Its students have constantly proved their forte.
The Indian Instrumental Music Club
Incharge – Mr Rais Ahmed Khan
The classical music of North India (Hindustani music) has roots in Persian Musiqi-e assil folk music, Sufi songs, Vedic chants, and the region’s own folk traditions. Although it is primarily a vocal-based music, the classical Hindustani music on this album is played on a variety of traditional instruments.
Synchronicity – The Western Instrumental Music Club
Playing instruments is an integral part of a balanced music program. The specialized study of instrumental music further enhances student learning in music. Instrumental music is: an enrichment of the normal classroom music program in schools
The Interact Club
Community service brings people together and engages them for a common cause. It teaches people about compassion, selflessness and empathy. That is what the Interact Club of our school has sought to do since the past many years.
A club with the prime motive to give back to society and help it, it also helps the students to develop character, leadership and organizational skills.
The Interact Club urges students to work beyond self, for the society at large and the country as a whole.
Ja’dore – The Fashion Technology Club
Modern school’s, fashion technology club, “Ja’dore” promises to cultivate a passion for designing, illustrating and sewing skills. It encourages member students to bring about the same brainstorming born creativity that they use as consumers to create a personalized and fabulous wardrobe for themselves.
Each year Modern school hosts a fashion show during the school assembly where the students of Classes 11th and 12th enthusiastically design novel garments based on a particular theme.
These designs are creatively modeled by students of our school itself. This event gives a grand runway to the inquisitive designers of our school as an opportunity to test their limits and hopefully work beyond it.
Lenscraft – The Photography Club
The Photography Club or the LensCraft Club as it is known is the seed ground for budding photographers of Modern School. It has been led by stalwarts like Mr OP Sharma, who now heads the department at Triveni Kala Sangam and is now headed by Mr Lajpat Rai Gupta.
It has nurtured talent like the renowned Himalayan landscape photographer Mr Ashok Dilwali. No event of Modern School is left untouched by the lens of the young and enthusiastic photographers of the school, ranging from Class S1 to S7.
They can be seen peering through their lens during the morning assembly or as they work hard to put together ‘Behind the Scenes’ of events like the Sports Day, Independence Day or Founder’s Day. Their creativity is on display on the screens in the lobby and in the Photography Room where one is left amazed at the works of the excellent photographers.
MUN Society
The MUN Society of Modern School embodies negotiation and diplomacy, attracting the sharpest students from S4-S7. With knowledge of pertinent global issues and international relations at its heart, the society conducts annually rigorous training sessions and the Intra-MUN to produce the best MUN-ers who emerge victorious at the most competitive conferences. It organizes the coveted Mod-MUN – one of the largest conferences in the country.
Phoenix – The Quiz Club
Synonymous with Modern Barakhamba, the Club weaves into its warp and weft, an appetite for meaning, enabling Club members to climb many mountains of their own choosing, notching accolades and several laurels, nationally and globally. Taking inspiration from the idea of being sedulous in our efforts, efficacious in our results and invincible in our intentions, the Logo of Phoenix conveys a tripartite message, signifying three things seminal to the Club’s ethos.
First, The Wings of Phoenix- Flaming, Fiery and Flamboyant act as a source of inspiration, motivating all Club members to soar the skies and reach the apogee that all of us strive for. Second- The Open Book which celebrates knowledge and the gravitas, sagacity, erudition and perceptiveness that books give us. Third- The Pen signifies utility- Knowledge is of no use if we do not have the right tools to express it and if we cannot use it for the good of others as well as ourselves.
Quizzing is an act that requires writing and the pen symbolizes the importance of transmitting knowledge The Motto of Phoenix aptly echoes this sentiment – ‘The intelligence of a man is known by the answers that he gives- the wisdom of a man is known by the questions that he poses’.
The Robotics Club
Robotics deals with the design, construction, operation, and use of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.
Teaching robotics lessons to students in school can increase their ability to be creative and innovative thinkers, and more productive members of society.
The Sculpture Club
Sculpture deptartment has a newly constituted club. The Club regularly takes up tasks to make sculptures on various occasions like the stage designing on the Founder’s day.The Club plans to bring up more outdoor sculptures during the forthcoming Centenary celebrations
The Science Club
The ‘Science Club ‘ of our school has been formed with the vision of promoting scientific vigour and the spirit of inquiry. The three science streams viz. Physics , Chemistry, Biology together organize a wide array of events which tests not only the participants knowledge but also their ability to effectively channelize and apply it to solve real life problems.The Biennial Science Symposium is adjudicated by luminaries from the world of science and provide the students a platform to showcase their scientific brilliance thereby truly setting a benchmark.
Spic Macay
Keeping in sync with inculcating Indian ethos among the students, Modern School has been an active member of SPICMACAY since its inception. Renowned artists, musicians, dancers are invited to conduct workshops and Lec-Dems on the occasion of World Dance Day and otherwise.
The school is an active participant in the event Virasat of SPICMACAY and also hosts the famous Swami Haridas Tansen Festival each year
Saptak – The Vocal Music Club
Music is an excellent way to relieve stress, which is significant for students who may feel overwhelmed by schoolwork and try to balance extracurricular activities. Music can reduce burnout and improves mood state.
Music education is also important because it gives students a way to connect with other people. Children are naturally very social, and it’s important to encourage them to build relationships by providing them experiences to share with each other. Creating a school band or small ensemble, or encouragings participation in a chorus will allow children to work together towards a final product (such as an end-of-year performance). This encourages bonding and will provide students with something to reminisce on together in the future.
Nature Club
The Nature Club has always been committed to sensitizing its students on issues relating to environment. It encourages its members to be pro-active towards sustainable development in their given milieu. The role of Nature Club is to impart fundamental knowledge about the natural environment, and to build practical skills among students at all levels. It aims to promote positive attitude that will enhance and ensure the conservation of our rich natural heritage.
Nature Club attempts to spread awareness about environment and undertakes activities like tree plantations, disuse of single use plastics to make the school plastic free zone, placings of pollution absorbing plants indoors, and water conservation strategies by placing water saving aerators in the taps in the school
Parwaaz – The Theatre Club
Theatre Education is vital for all round development of the child. It enhances self-Confidence which helps in learning by doing in class and performing for an audience. It teaches students to trust their ideas and abilities. Theatre education leads to curiosity and imagination in students. In a world addicted to technology, theatre provides an outlet for making creative choices and thinking new ideas.
